Eight people were killed on Sunday in the violence that erupted during a farmers' protest in Lakhimpur Kheri ahead of a visit by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni's native village.

Various political parties and farmers' outfits held protests in various parts of Uttar Pradesh over the killings of four farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, demanding the dismissal of Union minister Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni and lodging of an FIR against him and his son. The protests and demonstrations were reported from various districts, including Banda, Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Fatehpur, Jalaun and Lalitpur in the Bundelkhand region, besides Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home turf Gorakhpur. Besides the usual shouting of anti-government slogans, burning of government effigies, staging of sit-ins and blocking road traffics, the demonstrations were also marked by protesters clashing with police at some places, including Pilibhit, Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Fatehpur, Jalaun and Lalitpur. Workers of various political parties which participated in these protests included those of the Samajwadi Party, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. Some of the political parties also protested against their leaders being stopped from proceeding to Lakhimpur Kheri.

#The Congress Tuesday said its former president Rahul Gandhi will lead a five-member party delegation to Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday, and asked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to allow the visit.
#Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday alleged that she was being held illegally at the PAC compound in Sitapur and no notice or FIR has been provided to her even after her 38-hour detention and was not allowed to meet her legal counsel.
#The mortal remains of three of the farmers, who were mowed down by a vehicle during a protest in Lakhimpur Kheri, were cremated at their native places on Tuesday, while the family of the fourth one demanded a second post-mortem. Bahraich Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ashok Kumar said that "a decision on the demand for a second post mortem could be taken only by senior officials".

# Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
Before the meeting, he said, "Priyanka Gandhi is arrested so it's necessary to meet Rahul Gandhi. If the law is equal for everyone then why Priyanka Gandhi is in jail and the minister is roaming free."

# A petition is filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction to the Ministry of Home Affairs and police to register FIR and "punish the ministers" involved in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident during farmers' protest in Uttar Pradesh on October 3.
The plea filed by two lawyers also seeks setting up of high-level judicial inquiry under the supervision of the Supreme Court involving CBI in the stipulated time.

# MoS Home Ajay Mishra Teni says he and his son were not present at the spot when the incident happened. "We have evidence to prove that neither I nor my son were present at spot. We are ready to face any investigating agency. Culprits, who have planned this incident won't be spared," the minister says.
"We aren't aware of the how incident happened. Based on the information and video, it's visible that the driver was killed after being pulled out of the car. If it were my son, he'd have been dead. It's impossible to get out of a place where car ran over people amid gathering of thousands," Teni adds.
