Mallikarjun Kharge proposed as PM face for INDIA by Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's name was proposed as the prime ministerial candidate of the united opposition by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in the INDIA group meet on Tuesday (December 19), MDMK Chief Vaiko said. However, media reports citing sources, have reported there was no final decision on the issue.

However, Kharge, after the meeting in Delhi, said the alliance partners will now focus on seat-sharing talks at the state level and hold public meetings across the country. He stressed that any decision on the prime ministerial candidate will be taken after the elections.

"All INDIA parties unanimously decided how to take the alliance forward. At least 8-10 meetings will be done together across the country,” Kharge said.

Asked about the prime ministerial face of the alliance, he said, "We have to win first, and think what to do to win. What is the point in discussing PM before having MPs. We will try to get a majority together."

News agency PTI reported that INDIA bloc parties have decided to finalise the seat sharing by the second week of January.

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) leaders met on December 19 at the Ashoka Hotel in the heart of the national capital. The meeting was originally scheduled for December 6 but was postponed due to the unavailability of key leaders, including TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Kharge informed that the INDIA parties passed a resolution condemning the suspension of 141 Opposition MPs in the Parliament. The constituent parties will hold a protest against the suspension on December 22.
