The Ministry of Home Affairs has revoked the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), a prominent public policy research institution in New Delhi.
CPR President Yamini Aiyar informed ANI about the cancellation order received on January 10.
The FCRA license for CPR was initially suspended in February 2023 for 180 days, and subsequently, the suspension was extended for an additional 180 days.
Established in 1973, CPR has been a leading policy think-tank, engaging in advanced and comprehensive research on diverse policy-related matters.
In September 2022, the Income Tax department conducted a 'survey' against CPR, Oxfam India, and the Independent and Public-Spirited Media Foundation (IPSMF) in Bengaluru. This inquiry aimed to scrutinise their foreign funding sources.
Oxfam India faced a similar fate with the MHA refusing to renew its FCRA license in December 2021, resulting in the blocking of its foreign funding in India. Simultaneously, the Central Bureau of Investigation initiated an investigation into Oxfam India's activities.
