Gram Parikrama Yatra: BJP's next move to woo farmers ahead of Lok Sabha elections
Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is carrying out the Gram Parikrama Yatra. As part of the move, the ruling party is holding talks with farmers belonging to as many as 1.25 lakh villages across the country.

The month-long programme, which kickstarted on February 12, will continue till March 12, ANI reported. To woo the farmers, the BJP has made elaborate preparations and is said to be continuously organising several events and programmes to communicate with the farmer community nationwide.
“We are communicating with the farmers through the yatra and Kisan Chaupal. Our objective is to take suggestions from the farmers and to know what they want from Prime Minister Narendra Modi so that the 'Sankalp Patra' will be prepared. These things can be added in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Could include it in Modi's guarantee,” ANI quoted Rajkumar Chahar, national president of BJP's Kisan Morcha, as saying.
This comes amid farmer's 'Delhi Chalo' march, which was put on hold for two days by the farmer leaders on Wednesday after a protester was killed and about 12 police personnel got injured in clashes at Khanauri on the Punjab-Haryana border. Thousands of farmers are taking part in the agitation over their multiple demands, including a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for their produce and farm debt waiver.
Meanwhile, the programmes held under the BJP's Gram Parikrama Yatra were broadcast on 900 screens across the country.
As part of the campaign, the BJP is distributing leaflets to people about the work carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the welfare of farmers, ANI reported.
The Gram Parikrama Yatra commenced on February 12 in Muzaffarnagar, western Uttar Pradesh. As many as 20,000 farmers participated in the first rally as part of this campaign.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also attended the Muzaffarnagar event.
“There is no Opposition of any kind anywhere in the Gram Parikrama Yatra because of the work done by the PM Modi-led government in the last 10 years, ranging from the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi to Nano urea and others Under Modi's government, MSP has increased by 1.5 times... We are reaching 1.25 lakh villages.” Rajkumar Chahar said.
Chahar added, “MSP seems to be the main issue at the moment. There is a lot of purchasing on MSP on some crops in Punjab. MSP has continuously increased in production. Exports are also big and the government itself is continuously sitting in Chandigarh for talks (with protesting farmers). The solution will be found through talks. The government has been making decisions in the interest of farmers earlier and will continue to make them in the future also. Some issues need good discussion in the interest of farmers, like the issue of MSP.”
