General Elections 2019 Trivia: Seats of power
India will go to polls on April 11 for the 17th Lok Sabha election, which will be held in seven phases.

Almost 90 crore eligible voters will cast their votes to elect their preferred candidates in about 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.
Since independence, political parties in India have grown from a handful of 54 parties in 1950 to 475 parties in 2014.
With the rise of political parties, the Lok Sabha seats have also jumped to 543 since 1977, up by almost 11 percent. In 1952, Lok Sabha elections were contested for 489 seats.
In the 2014 elections, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged the highest number of seats, 210 Lok Sabha seats, the Congress won 106 seats through out the country.
