The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday decided to revise the date for counting in the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram. Initially set for December 3, 2023 (Sunday), the new counting date is now December 4, 2023 (Monday).
This adjustment comes in response to numerous representations from various quarters, urging a change in the counting date from Sunday to a weekday.
In an official statement, the ECI highlighted that the requests were made on the grounds that December 3, 2023, holds special significance for the people of Mizoram as it falls on a Sunday. By rescheduling to Monday, the ECI aims to accommodate the cultural and social preferences of the Mizoram population, ensuring a more suitable and accessible environment for the counting process.
"The Commission has received several representations from various quarters requesting for change in date of counting from 3rd December, 2023 (Sunday) to some other week day, on the ground that 3rd December, 2023 being Sunday a special significance for the people of Mizoram." EC said.
