The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has named Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the first time in the money laundering case linked to NRI businessman CC Thampi. ED had named her husband Robert Vadra in earlier charge sheets related to the case.
The chargesheet mentioned Priyanka's role in purchasing agricultural land measuring 40 kanal (five acres) in Haryana's Faridabad from a Delhi-based real estate agent HL Pahwa in 2006 and sold the same to him in February 2010.
In its statement, ED said, "Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra bought land in Haryana through a Delhi-based real estate agent who also sold land to NRI businessman CC Thampi", Mint reported.
Sources within the ED told News18 that Priyanka's name came to light during the financial investigation of the close associates of fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari, including Thampi and Vadra. It was disclosed that Priyanka and Robert Vadra had acquired land in Amipur village, Faridabad, between 2005 and 2006.
Although Priyanka and Vadra are not directly accused in the chargesheet but their involvement in land transactions in Amipur village has raised questions during the financial scrutiny of the connections between Thampi and Vadra.
On Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's name in ED chargesheet, Congress leader Pawan Khera told ANI, "Look at what they'll do ahead of the elections, it's just the beginning. They are not doing it for the first time, they do such conspiracies when elections approach. Let them do consipracies."
