President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday, January 30, addressed the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament at the beginning of the Budget Session. She said it is her first address in new Parliament building which was built at beginning of 'Amrit Kaal'.
Highlighting the work of the Narendra Modi government, Murmu congratulated the Prime Minister for passing of the women's reservation bill. "My government is working at every level to empower women," says Murmu. Earlier in the day, Modi also emphasised on the strength of Nari Shakti in this session with the President's guidance and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman interim budget.
Here are the highlights from her speech:
- Building of Ram temple has been a dream of centuries, it is a reality now, says President Murmu. The consecration ceremony of the new Ram Lalla idol was held on Jauary 22 in Ayodhya.
- In last 10 years, we have seen India becoming one of the top five economies from 'Fragile 5'. Earlier, the country's rate of inflation was in double digits which is now within 4%, says President Murmu.
- We have been hearing slogans of eradicating poverty for long. Now, for the first time, we are seeing poverty being eradicated on a large-scale. According to NITI Aayog, in the 10-year rule of my government, nearly 25 crore people have come out of poverty, says the President.
- Made in India defence equipment is pride of the nation. A meaningful results of my government's efforts for internal peace are in front of us. Be it terrorism or expansionism, our forces are giving a befitting reply, says President Murmu.
- Despite global crises, my goverment has kept inflation under control and it did not allow burden on common man to increase: President Murmu.
- My government is continuously working on making it easy to do business in India and creating a suitable environment for it. My government is working with full commitment to empower MSMEs, small entrepreneurs, says President Murmu.
- A big portion of tax has been utilised to empower youth, women, farmers, poor. My government believes that the grand edifice of a developed India will stand on four strong pillars of youth power, women power, farmers, poor, says President Murmu.
- We have one of the strongest banking systems in the world, says President Murmu.
