Bihar Election October 26 Highlights: Campaign ends for first phase of assembly election; COVID spike probability warned
The campaign for the 243-member Bihar legislative assembly elections 2020 is in full swing. The three-phase polls will be held on — October 28, November 3 and November 7 — and the counting of votes will take place on November 10. The Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress and Left parties will take on the Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal (United) combine. Some other smaller parties are also in the fray.

Here are the highlights from the 2020 Bihar assembly elections from October 26:

  • Campaign ends for the first phase of assembly election: Curtain came down on Monday over the campaign for 71 assembly segments of Bihar which go to polls on October 28, in the first phase of elections. Leading the NDA charge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew down to address as many as three rallies where he urged the voters to vote Chief Minister Nitish Kumar back to power.
    • Mayawati asks voters to guard against tactics of rival parties: BSP president Mayawati on Monday warned voters in Bihar to guard against "conspiracies" of rival parties as she sought support for her party's alliance in the polls. Voting for 243 assembly seats in Bihar will be held on October 28, November 3 and November 7.
    • COVID caution goes for a toss in Bihar election heat: With the campaign for the Bihar assembly election reaching a fever pitch, the Election Commission's warning of stern action for violation of COVID19 protocol has gone unheeded with people gathering in huge numbers at rallies without wearing masks or caring for social distancing. Several senior leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, BJP incharge for Bihar polls Devendra Fadnavis, former union minister and Chapra MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, his Gaya counterpart Vijay Manjhi, BJP national spokesman Syed Shahnawaz Hussain and former state minister Narendra Singh have fallen victim to the contagion.
    • LJP to promote religious tourism in Bihar if voted to power, says Chirag Paswan: Holding Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar responsible for not developing religious tourism in his 15yearrule in the state, LJP chief and MP Chirag Paswan on Sunday asserted that he will develop various places associated with Sufi saints in the state to improve revenue collections. LJP will implement its Bihar 1st, Bihari 1st vision document after coming to power which talks of promoting religious tourism in the state, he said in a series of tweets.(With inputs from PTI)
