Ensure social distancing, limit number of people in rallies: Healthcare experts to poll-bound states
As the Election Commission announced assembly poll schedule for five states , healthcare experts have advised these states to ensure social distancing norms are followed and set a limit on the number of people attending rallies, saying violations of Covid guidelines can have severe repercussions at this critical stage of the pandemic.
With the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic unfolding, the commission has set new protocols to ensure "Covid safe" elections to 690 assembly seats across the five states, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra told reporters here. Healthcare experts cautioned that any violations of rules at this critical time can have severe repercussions in view of the current COVID-19 situation in the country.
BJP to get 'overwhelming majority', says Yogi after EC announces poll dates
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday welcomed the announcement of poll dates in the state and said the BJP will return to power with an "overwhelming majority". The Election Commission has announced seven-phase voting in Uttar Pradesh starting February 10. Counting of votes will take place in March, along with four other poll-bound states.
"We welcome the festival of democracy. "With the blessings of the people and on the basis of the double engine government's achievements, the BJP will form its government with an overwhelming majority," Adityanath tweeted in Hindi.
AAP is ready: Arvind Kejriwal after poll schedule announcement
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said his party is ready to contest the assembly polls in various states, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The AAP national convenor made the remark soon after the Election Commission announced the poll schedules for five states, including Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, besides UP and Punjab assemblies.
The dates for the elections have been announced. The Aam Aadmi Party is ready, Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi. The AAP has decided to contest in all these states barring Manipur.
CAIT demand online voting provision
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) appreciated the Election Commission of India’s move to ban physical campaign rallies until January 15 and has requested the poll body to continue the ban through the entire campaign period. It has also called for the EC to provide an option to cast votes online.
Uttar Pradesh assembly poll schedule
Voting in Uttar Pradesh will take place on all days of the seven-phased assembly elections 2022. In the first phase on Feb 10, voters of 58 constituencies will cast their ballot, followed by 55 constituencies in Phase 2, 59 constituencies in Phase 3, 60 constituencies each in Phase 4 and 5, 57 in Phase 6 and 54 in the last phase of polling.
