78 Oppn MPs suspended from Parliament for remainder of Winter Session marking highest-ever record
As many as 78 Opposition MPs were suspended from the Parliament for the remainder of the Winter Session of Parliament on Monday, December 18. This includes 45 MPs from Rajya Sabha and 33 MPs from the Lok Sabha. This takes the total number of MPs suspended so far to 92.

While 34 MPs including Congress' Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Surjewala and KC Venugopal, were suspended today from Rajya Sabha, the suspension of 11 MPs has been referred to the Privilege Committee. Their suspension is likely to continue till report submission. The house was till Tuesday, December 19, after the suspension.
The matter of suspension of Lok Sabha MPs Abdul Khaliq, Vijay Vasanth and K Jeyakumar has been referred to the Privileges Committee.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, "...It is not that collectively they have to suspend everybody...If they think that the House is supreme why are afraid?... If they suspend all the members how will they raise their voice? They are passing three important bills...There is a system in democracy...Who will raise the voice of the people? The voices of the people have been choked. Let them suspend the House first. They have no morale right to run this House to suspend the opposition fully...They will run a mockery nothing else..."
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, "Such tyranny will not work. It is not acceptable to the country. They received this mandate on the trust of the people. They received the mandate because they had considered national security an important issue. But the most secure building is being attacked today. Neither the Prime Minister nor the Home Minister speaks on it. If we demand your statement, you suspended us from the House - this is not acceptable to anyone. We will continue to fight for this...If we are being suspended because we are demanding (statement), then this is a badge of honour for us."
Last week, as many as 14 opposition MPs were suspended from Parliament for disrupting proceedings over the Lok Sabha security breach incident. While Trinamool Congress's Derek O'Brien was suspended in Rajya Sabha, 13 opposition MPs were suspended from Lok Sabha.
Earlier in the day, suspended MPs sat on the stairs of Parliament's Makar Dwar.
On Wednesday, December 13, two persons jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, shouted slogans and released coloured smoke from canisters that triggered panic and chaos in the House.
