The best lightweight laptops for students traveling abroad

Dell New Inspiron 14 5490 – Rs 56,982 – Dell is one of the only other brands currently offering the latest 10th generation Intel Core i processor on its laptops. This particular model weighs just 1.42 kg and gives you a 14-inch full HD display with slim bezel on three sides. You get Windows 10 OS running on 10th Gen Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage for blazing-fast performance. It has 3 x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, USB Type-C port and a microSD card reader. We liked that it comes with fast charge support – 80% battery charge in an hour. The only thing we find lacking in this is that by default it does not come with a backlit keyboard.

HP Pavillion 14 – Rs 54,990 – HP is amongst the few laptop brands to offer the 10th gen Intel Core i5 processor at the moment in India. Other hardware specifications include 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD storage and a 3-cell battery. This has a 14-inch full HD display in a sleek and stylish design weighing just 1.6kg. Ports include 2 x USB 3.0, USB Type-C, HDMI and Ethernet. There is an island-style backlit keyboard, dual speakers, HD webcam and built-in Alexa support.

Asus Vivobook S Series – Rs 54,990 - This option from Asus proves to be a great balance between performance and size. It has a 14-inch full HD display with three side slim bezels and weighes just 1.4kg. In the hardware department you get an Intel Core i5 8th gen processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD plus a 1TB hard drive for storage. It has a unique ergolift design that raise the laptop at an angle for comfortable typing. It has 3 x USB 3.0 port, USB Type C port, HDMI and a microSD card reader along with HD webcam, fingerprint reader and a backlit keyboard. It also boasts or fast charging support with 60% charge in less than an hour.

HP 14q – Rs 32,490 – In case you are strict on your budget but still want to get a laptop that works fast for a day to day usage, you can look at the HP 14q. This thin and light laptop weighs just 1.43kg and has a 14-inch HD resolution display. One of the key highlights of this laptop is that it's one of the cheapest to offer SSD storage for fast read and write. You get a7th gen Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD with a claimed battery life of up to 7 hours. Other features include dual speakers, HD webcam, 3 x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, Ethernet and a media card reader.

Acer Aspire 5s – Rs 49,990 – Weighing 1.8kg, this sleek laptop from Acer gives you a 15.6-inch full HD display with two side slim bezels and looks fantastic with its industrial design. There are a total of 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 x USB 2.0, HDMI and Ethernet port. Powered by the 8th gen Intel Core i5 processor, the Aspire 5s comes with 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD storage and Nvidia Geforce MX250 GPU with 2GB dedicated memory. You get a full keyboard including the number pad, a large trackpad and dual speakers. Battery life is claimed to be over 7 hours. In the same price, you can also look at the Acer Swift 3 if you want a smaller screen of 14-inch with similar specifications.
