CES 2024 Begins: The premier trade event, CES 2024, kicked off on Jan 9 in Las Vegas. Organised by the Consumer Technology Association, it’s set to run until Jan 12. With 130,000 attendees and 4,000 exhibitors, the event is showcasing breakthroughs in various sectors, with AI being a key focus. Here are all the major updates from day 1 of CES 2024:
Mercedes-Benz’s AI Assistant: Mercedes-Benz unveiled several in-car tech upgrades at CES 2024, including an AI-powered virtual assistant set to be introduced to its vehicles soon. The German automaker’s new cloud-connected AI assistant aims to personalise interactions between drivers and their cars, enhancing infotainment, automated driving, seating comfort, and charging.
Honda’s Zero Series: Honda unveiled two concept vehicles, the “Saloon” and “Space-Hub”, for a new global electric vehicle series. The Zero Series focuses on “thin, light and wise” models with a goal to minimise battery size. The first models are expected to reach the North American market in 2026, with plans to expand to other regions thereafter. Honda also introduced a new “H mark” logo for its next generation of EVs.
Space-Hub Unveiled: Toshihiro Mibe, a top executive at Honda, posed next to the newly unveiled Honda Zero Series “Space-Hub” electric vehicle, marking another significant reveal at the event.
Downey Fights Scammers: Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as “Iron Man”, is now a board member and strategist at AI security startup Aura. This online app uses artificial intelligence to monitor accounts and prevent digital crimes such as scams, hacks, and identity theft. Google’s AI Features: Google demonstrated various ways it is integrating generative AI features into Android devices. New features include AI-generated wallpapers and suggested text message responses. Chromecast is being expanded to more apps and devices, allowing TikTok content to be cast directly to TVs. Google is also partnering with more automakers to pre-install apps such as Google Maps and Assistant in select models from Ford, Nissan, and Lincoln this year, with Porsche following in 2025.
