Indian Grandmaster and chess wunderkind Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa thrilled the world during the FIDE Chess World Cup. At the age of just 18, he became the world's youngest player to reach the final. Praggnanandhaa defeated Fabiano Caruana in tie-breaks in the semifinal. He also became the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, to reach the final in Chess World Cup history. Teenage sensation Aditi Gopichand Swami made history as she became the youngest World Archery Champion in the World Cup era (2006 onwards) and claimed India’s first-ever individual title at the 2023 Hyundai World Archery Championships with a compound women’s gold in Berlin. India's men's and women's hockey teams had an amazing run this year as both teams lifted the Asian Champions Trophy. First, the Harmanpreet Singh-led side defeated Malaysia 4-3 in the final of the men's competition in Chennai for India's fourth Asian Champions crown. A few months later, Savita Punia led the women's team to a win in the final of the Women's Asian Champions Trophy by defeating Japan 4-0 in Ranchi. This year, old warhorse Rohan Bopanna proved that age is just a mere number as, at 43, he became the oldest ATP Masters champion. The tennis star achieved the feat after winning the men's doubles final of the BNP Paribas Open with Matthew Ebden. Bopanna also became the oldest player to reach the finals of a Grand Slam at the 2023 US Open. To round off his achievements this year, Boppana also became the oldest player to win a match at the ATP Finals as he and Ebden beat Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler 6-4, 6-4 in a round-robin match.
