Bhanu Athaiya | The Indian costume designer and painter was the first Indian to win an Academy Award. She was bestowed with the Academy Award for Costume Design in 1983 for Gandhi (Richard Attenborough, 1982).
Satyajit Ray | The legendary filmmaker received an Honorary Award in 1992 for his contribution to cinema. Ray, who called it "certainly the best achievement of my moviemaking career," was at the time hospitalised in Kolkata. Till date, he remains to be the only Indian to have ever been given the Honorary Award.
Resul Pookutty | The sound engineer won the award of Best Sound Mixing for the film Slumdog Millionaire ( D Boyle & L Tandan, 2008) along with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke in 2009.
Gulzar | The lyricist, author, poet, and screenwriter bagged the Oscar for Best Original Song for Jai Ho from the film Slumdog Millionaire (D Boyle & L Tandan, 2008) in 2009.
A. R. Rahman | The musician scripted history by becoming the first Asian to win two Oscars in the same year. Rahman was bestowed the Best Original Score, and shared the award for Best Original Song with Gulzar for Jai Ho in 2009.
Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga | In 2023, the two ladies won the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) for the Tamil documentary “The Elephant Whisperers”. They created history by becoming the maiden Indian production to win in the Documentary Short Subject category.
M. M. Keeravani and Chandrabose | The music composer and lyricist-singer duo bagged the award for best song for Naatu Naatu from the film RRR (S. S. Rajamouli, 2022).
