Remembering Dilip Kumar, the 'Tragedy King of Bollywood'

Kumar, famous for the movies like Mughal-e-Azam, Naya Daur, Devdas, Ram Aur Shyam had last featured on the big screen in 1998 in the film called Qila.

Dilip Kumar, born Yusuf Khan, was also called 'The First Khan' and besides acting, he was known for his works as a philanthropist and film producer.

With a career spanning five iconic decades, Kumar was one of the legends of the Golden Age of Cinema in India.

He has been credited far and wide for bringing a distinct form of method acting technique to the cinema.

The actor holds the record for most wins for the Filmfare Award for the Best Actor and was also the recipient of the inaugural of the award.

He won the Filmfare Award in the Best Actor category eight times.

Amitabh Bachchan has mourned the death of Dilip Kumar via a post on his Twitter page. "An institution has gone.. whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written, it shall always be 'before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar'.. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss.. Deeply saddened.." he wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi  offered his condolences over the demise of veteran actor Dilip Kumar. Modi said Dilip Kumar will be remembered as a "cinematic legend" and his death is a loss to the cultural world."Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP," the Prime Minister said in a tweet.

His last rites are likely to be held at the Juhu Muslim Cemetery in Santacruz west, around 5 pm.
