Toyota recently unveiled its new Crown Sport Hybrid (HEV), set to launch in November, with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version due in December. The Crown Sedan and Estate models are also expected to launch within this fiscal year. The Crown series, built on a unique platform, includes four diverse models. The Crown high-riding sedan has entered the North American market, and the Japan-only Crown Sport SUV is expected to expand to other markets soon. ()
Exterior Design: The Crown Sport, the most creative model in the Crown series, is designed with an emphasis on beauty. The design concept adds an exhilarating essence to simplicity, resulting in a sporty and dynamic appearance. The rear fenders, extending dramatically from the D pillars to the rear tyres, enhance the car’s dynamic stance. The car’s face resembles a hammerhead shark, with narrow-lens daytime running lamps. The Sport model also features 21-inch tyres and aluminium wheels.
Interior Design: The interior employs an island architecture design, with asymmetrically coordinated driver and passenger seats. The driver’s side is uniformly black to aid concentration on driving, while the passenger side has a special material and colour scheme. Meter displays are grouped horizontally to minimise eye movement, enabling the driver to focus on driving.
Vibrant Colours: The Sport model comes in six monotone and five bi-tone body colours. The bi-tone colours enhance the Sport’s form and express unique perspectives. The interior colour scheme, including a new Sand Brown and Black combination, caters to diverse tastes and reflects a lifestyle centred around enjoyable driving.
Detailed Interior: The Sport model, with its attractive exterior, allows easy entry and exit due to the high hip point provided by large tyres. Careful attention has been given to the rocker panels’ height, level differences, and rear door trims to facilitate leg movement.
Enhanced Communication: The Sport model features Toyota’s first sound-regulating ceiling. This design reflects sounds within the cabin, creating a space where occupants can easily converse.
Dynamic Rear Steering: The Sport model includes Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS), optimally tuned for the car. It balances agility at low speeds with stability at high speeds, providing an enjoyable driving experience.
Efficient Hybrid System: Like the Crossover, the Sport model is equipped with a high-efficiency hybrid system that improves efficiency and performance. It provides better responsiveness at low speeds and direct acceleration at medium and high speeds.
Plug-in Hybrid System: The Sport model features a high-output density drive motor that delivers appealing acceleration and enables front/rear load shifting and car speed control. The plug-in hybrid variant comes with a large-capacity lithium-ion battery that provides an extended EV-mode cruising range without compromising interior space.
Advanced Safety Systems: The Sport model comes standard with the latest Toyota Safety Sense, including Proactive Driving Assist (PDA). Other features include Toyota Teammate Advanced Drive, Advanced Park (with remote function), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Panoramic View Monitor (PVM), and Safe Exit Assist (SEA). These systems enhance safety performance and reduce driver burden under certain conditions.
