Czech automobile manufacturer Skoda has unveiled digital sketches of its second-generation sports utility vehicle (SUV), the Kodiaq, which is slated for its global debut on October 4, 2023. The newly released sketches reveal a powerful and emotive design.
Previously, Skoda shared images of the interiors and powertrain details, suggesting that the new generation Kodiaq will be available in both 5- and 7-seater models. The SUV is likely to feature signature Skoda grille, sleeker-looking LED headlights with integrated L-shaped LED daytime running lights, and trapezoidal fog lamps akin to the outgoing model.
Oliver Stefani, Head of Škoda Design, stated in a company release, “The all-new Kodiaq is both modern and dynamic, with a strikingly distinctive look. In line with the ‘form follows function’ principle, we have incorporated the first elements of our future Modern Solid design language. The design not only emphasises practicality but also enhances aerodynamics with its dynamic shape.”
The SUV is expected to sport a new front bumper with a more angular design, a strong shoulder line with flared wheel arches, and redesigned tail lamps with an LED light bar in the centre. It will be offered with multiple wheel sizes ranging from 17 to 20 inches.
Built on the VW Group’s MQB modular platform, the next-gen Kodiaq will be available in two seating configurations: 5-seater and 7-seater. It measures 4,758 mm in length, which is 61 mm and 59 mm longer than the outgoing 5-seater and 7-seater versions, respectively.
The upcoming Kodiaq will offer a choice of petrol and diesel engines. These include a 1.5-litre TSI mild-hybrid, a 2.0-litre TSI 4WD and a 2.0-litre TDI available in two states of tune. Additionally, Skoda will offer a PHEV version in select markets. This version will use the 1.5-litre TSI engine paired with a 25.7 kWh battery offering an electric-only range of over 100 km.
