Arcadia Unveiled: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has introduced Arcadia, the third Coachbuild Droptail commission. The name Arcadia is derived from a mythical realm in Ancient Greek mythology, known for its natural beauty and harmony.
Unique Design: The design of Arcadia reflects the principal design of Droptail. It’s the first roadster body style in Rolls-Royce’s modern history. The car was presented to the commissioning client at a private ceremony in Singapore.
Time and Craftsmanship: The creation of Arcadia required significant time. Eight thousand hours were spent developing the wood and protective coating used throughout the car. The lacquer was designed to last the car’s entire life.
Woodwork Details: Santos Straight Grain wood was used for this build. The open pore veneer was laid at a 55-degree angle to ensure the interlocking grain pattern. The car uses 233 wood pieces, with 76 on the rear deck alone.
Complex Clock: The car features the most complex clock face in Rolls-Royce history. The clock, designed and built by Rolls-Royce Coachbuild, features 119 facets and 12 chaplets. Assembly took five months, following two years of development.
Exterior Features: The exterior of Arcadia Droptail is not just white. The main body colour is solid white, infused with aluminium and glass particles. This creates the illusion of unending depth in the paint.
Silver Accents: Unlike other Droptails, the Arcadia has its carbon fibre painted silver. The mirror polished accents throughout the car, including grilles, vanes, and wheels, are a nod to historic Rolls-Royce brightwork.
CEO’s Statement: New Rolls-Royce CEO Chris Brownbridge said, “Rolls-Royce Coachbuild is the pinnacle expression of this incredible brand, and an unmatched concept in the luxury sector.”
Personal Connection: Brownbridge added, “Arcadia Droptail exemplifies this approach. This motor car is deeply connected to the client’s personality and preferences, and in capturing their character we have been empowered to make inspiring design, craft and engineering statements.”
Performance Highlights: The Arcadia Droptail is powered by a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, which delivers 593 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. Despite its size, the car can accelerate from zero to 62mph in around five seconds, and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
