Hold an SBI account? Here's how to change your branch without visiting the bank

SBI account holders need not visit the branch physically to transfer their accounts. Now it is just a matter of a few clicks on the smartphone or computer. SBI has made this move in light of the deadly second surge of COVID-19.

Customers of State Bank of India (SBI) can now transfer their accounts from one branch to another online without visiting a branch. The transfer of the account can be done online using the YONO SBI, YONO Lite apps, and through OnlineSBI services.

"If you need help in transferring your account from one branch to another, then SBI has got your back. Use YONO SBI, YONO Lite and OnlineSBI from the comfort of your homes and bank safe," SBI tweeted on May 7.
All you need to have are a registered mobile phone number, a smartphone or a computer with an internet connection. This initiative has been taken by the largest public sector bank to prioritise digital contactless service in the wake of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Once you initiate the process, the accounts will be transferred in a week, without any charge.
How to Transfer Account Via YONO SBI App.
  1. Login to the SBI YONO app on your mobile phone.
  2. Click on ‘Services’ option.
  3. Then go to ‘Transfer of Saving Account’ option.
  4. Select your savings account, provide the new branch code, where you want to transfer your account and click on ‘Get Branch’ name. You will be able to see the new branch’s name.
  5. If it is correct, then click on ‘Submit’.
  6. Finally review all the details and make a final submission of your request.
  7. How to Transfer Account Using SBI Website
    1. Log in to www.onlinesbi.com
    2. Go to ‘Personal Banking’ tab
    3. Login using your username and password
    4. Click on ‘e-services’ option
    5. Select ‘Transfer of Savings Account’ option. You can now see your account details like the number and branch name.
    6. Select the account you want to transfer and provide the code of the new branch where you wish to transfer the account. After putting the branch code, you will get its name.
    7. Select the branch name and submit the request.
    8. You will have to verify the account transfer details using the existing and new branch codes.
    9. Click on the ‘Confirm’ button, after which a One-time Password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number.
    10. Enter the OTP and click on ‘Confirm’ to register your request.
