Q: 25-year-old Sudhanva Prakash writes us from Karnataka. I am investing Rs 4,000 per month in Reliance Tax Saver (ELSS) Fund - Growth Plan, Axis Long Term Equity Fund - Growth and Franklin India Taxshield - Growth. Apart from ELSS, I am investing Rs 2,000 per month in ICICI Prudential Value Discovery Fund (G), Rs 1,000 per month in Franklin India Bluechip Fund (G), Rs 1,000 per month in Franklin India Smaller Companies Fund (G) and Rs 2,000 per month in Reliance Low Duration Fund (G). My total investment is Rs 18,000 per month. Please review and suggest if I can stick to this pattern or kindly suggest any improvements. My aim is wealth creation.
A: Congratulations on starting to invest early. Time is on your side so keep at it. Rs 16,000 equity/Rs 2,000 debt (11 percent debt allocation which for your age is fine). Three things to think about: 1) Move to direct plans. It will increase your returns for the same scheme. 2) Wealth creation is a good aim. But it would be more powerful if you can align it to your short term and long term financial goals. 3) Do you really need three tax saving funds? We would advise to look at overlap and ideally have one tax saving scheme (at most two).
