Bandhan Bank reopens online and debit card services after 3 days but customers complain of disruptions

Several customers of Bandhan Bank faced issues accessing internet banking and online services after the bank went live with an upgraded system after a three-day scheduled migration to a new platform. Customers took to social media to raise concerns about being unable to use banking services even after the three-day scheduled maintenance break that Bandhan Bank took.

A user by the name of Prateek, on microblogging site X, said, “why doesn’t your app ever work? Even after the monstrous downtime of 3 days still unable to login to your application! Pathetic by any standards. @RBI.”
Another user by the name Subhadeep Dey also posted on X, “after Today's new bandhan bank app update , app opening with a white screen, nothing coming after granting all access full white screen. Kindly fix the issue , urgently need to send money to someone for work purposes. Oct 3 after 8am trying still can't do anything.”
The bank stated that it had successfully completed the migration of its Core Banking System and Internet Banking to a new platform on October 03, 2023 in an exchange disclosure early on Tuesday morning.
However, users have continued to complain about disruptions.
In response to complaints, the bank replied to some customers on X, saying, “in order to serve you better, we were upgrading our services from 8 PM on September 30 to 8 AM on October 3, 2023. We have gone live with the upgraded system as scheduled. Due to heavy traffic, the system is experiencing some slowness. We request you to try it after some time. We regret the inconvenience.”
On September 30, the bank had informed its customers and also made a disclosure to exchanges that it would be migrating its core banking system and internet banking to a new platform.
“The migration activity is scheduled between 8.00 P.M. (IST) on September 30, 2023 and 8.00 A.M. (IST) on October 03, 2023. During this period, our online banking and debit card services will not be available. The Bank has communicated to all its customers about the downtime through various channels so that they may plan their transactions in advance to avoid any inconvenience,” it said.
CNBC-TV18 reached out to Bandhan Bank for a comment. The story will be updated when the bank responds.
Bandhan Bank currently serves more than 3 crore customers through a network of over 6,000 banking outlets spread across 34 states and union territories in India.
