HAL bags ₹2,890 crore order from Defence Ministry for mid life upgrade of 25 Dornier aircraft
India's aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd on Friday (March 15) said it has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence for Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) of 25 Domier aircraft along with associated equipment for the Indian Navy at a cost of ₹2,890 crore.

"...we wish to inform you that, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with the company on March 15, 2024, for Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) of 25 Dornier Aircraft along with associated equipment for the Indian Navy at a cost of around Rs 2,890 crore," HAL said in a regulatory filing.
The MLU for Domier Aircraft includes an upgrade to incorporate state-of-the-art avionics systems and primary role sensors. The upgrade would significantly enhance the operational capability of the Domier aircraft of the Indian Navy to perform primary roles of maritime surveillance, coastal surveillance, electronic intelligence and development of maritime domain awareness, the company said.
In addition, this upgrade will also enable Indian Navy Domiers to carry out secondary roles of search and rescue, medical/casualty evacuation and communication link. The Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) of 25 Domier aircraft is likely to generate employment of 1.8 lakh man-days during its execution span of 6.5 years, the company added.
The indigenous upgrade entails the supply of major systems and equipment from indigenous sources thus significantly contributing towards "Atmanirbharta" in defence, in consonance with the Make-in-India initiative of the government of India.
Shares of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd ended at ₹3,098.85, down by ₹68.20, or 2.15% on the BSE.
