The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated an operation against the Hiranandani Group, a business group in India. The operation involves search operations at four locations. The action is related to potential violations of the FEMA law. The search operation is being conducted at three locations in Mumbai and one in Panvel.
The case is connected to transactions associated with a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) case. The investigation agency received inputs in this case, which led to the search operation on 22nd February. The operation involved the scrutiny of several pieces of evidence and documents.
There is no connection in this case with Mahua Moitra, a former MP of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). This case is related to the Hiranandani Group and FDI. The ED has been investigating another case related to the Hiranandani business and former TMC MP Mahua Moitra, but this is a separate case related to FDI and the Hiranandani Group.
A few months ago, an allegation was made against Trinamool Congress leader and former Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra by a BJP leader. The case later went to the Lokpal and then to the CBI.
Mahua Moitra was accused of asking questions in Parliament after receiving gifts and money from a businessman, and also of potentially jeopardising national security by receiving financial benefits. Consequently, she was expelled from the Lok Sabha. However, Mahua Moitra has been denying all the allegations, and the CBI is now investigating this case.
