Prefer banks to NBFCs: Vaibhav Sanghavi

Vaibhav Sanghavi, Co-CEO at Avendus Capital Alt Strategies, prefers banks to NBFCs at the current juncture. "In an increasing interest rate environment, banking or financials would generally be the that would do well. We have also seen in the recent results, they have been panning out pretty well; growth is evident, and probably asset quality is also pretty much in check except for the NBFC space where we are seeing some weakness," he said.

With respect to NBFCs, I think the core advantage that was their outreach is now getting kind of challenged with the advent of new fintech companies... At this point in time, we would want to be in banks, and probably the leaders as well that are capable of showing some decent growth while improving their asset quality," he added.

Speacialty chemical space still has wings: Anand Tandon

Market expert Anand Tandon sees more potential in specialty chemicals in general. "Navin Fluorine has done quite well... You're playing a cycle, because of the withdrawal of China Plus, the fact that you are looking at the overall sector doing quite well... So most of the companies have done well, and will likely continue to do well for at least the foreseeable future," he said.

Market coming to terms with new age cos' over-projected future growth numbers: Anand Tandon

Market expert Anand Tandon believes the market is slowly coming to terms with the fact that many of the future growth numbers of new age businesses are over-projected. He doesn't expect a straight line fall as such but expects them to "churn down further from where we are". "We are looking at an interest rate scenario that is going to tighten from here no matter what the central banks may do or say. So if you are looking at that, it's a simple question of being a long bond and a long bond will trade down. And that is the reason why we've been arguing that value will outperform growth simply because you are willing to value current cash earnings much higher than any future earnings that may come because of the growth," he said.

"Even otherwise, a company like Zomato, for example, was grossly overpriced, even assuming the best margins and the best growth story," he added.
