Lucy MacDonald, chief investment officer of global equities at Allianz Global Investors, shared her 2019 outlook for global equities and emerging markets in an interaction with CNBC-TV18 on Wednesday.
"Expect a year of relatively flat returns but more volatility because liquidity is being drained from the system", MacDonald said.
“Growth will be slower this year because of we are coming off a year when you had very strong earnings growth in the US,” she said.
MacDonald sees more upside potential for emerging markets. "India has been a bastion of stability over the last year."
Talking about corporate earnings in India, she said, "The probability of earnings delivering in India is higher this year, particularly the financial sector. In a relative sense, where we are seeing earnings downward revisions elsewhere in the world, India could look a better place."
