The Bombay Stock Exchange has announced that the Mahurat Trading session for the new Samvat will be held on November 12, between 6 PM and 7:15 PM IST.
Mahurat Trading is the special trading session which is held on the exchanges on the occassion of Diwali. During this session, the exchanges are open only for one hour where traders and investors can punch in token trades to mark the start of the new year.
Muhurat Trading is considered as an auspicious occasion to start anything new, including investing in the stock market.
Many investors believe that buying stocks during Muhurat Trading will bring them good luck and wealth throughout the year. Stock traders start new settlement accounts on the Diwali day.
The Muhurat Trading session is generally held in the evening during the auspicious period of Laxmi Pujan on Diwali. Markets are shut for regular trading on that day and only open for that one-hour period.
All trades executed during the Muhurat trading session are settled on the same day. There is usually a 15-minute pre-opening session and a closing session to settle all the trades.
Significance of Muhurat Trading
Muhurat Trading is significant because it is an opportunity for investors to start their investment journey on an auspicious note. It is also a good time for experienced investors to add new stocks to their portfolios or to increase their holdings in existing stocks.
During the last two Mahurat Trading sessions, stock markets have closed in the green on Muhurat Trading Day. Both Sensex and Nifty gained 0.88% each on the Muhurat Trading in 2022, while in 2021 the two indices moved up by 0.49% each.
It is important to note that Muhurat Trading is a one-hour trading session, and the market movements can be volatile.
