In a first, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva visited the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and rang the opening bell on Monday (September 18) at 7:00 pm IST. This is the first time that a managing director of the IMF rang the bell to mark the start of the trading session.
The opening bell has been in use since 1985 and is used to mark the start of its trading session at 9:30 am Eastern time (EST).
