Deal Street is gaining momentum with foreign investors showing bullishness towards India's growth story. Additionally, the recent surge in equity market exits is bolstering confidence in the market's depth for large share sales, according to Manisha Girotra, CEO of Moelis India, as reported on Big Deal.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Girotra said, “I think the exit is an important part of the thesis for any private equity investor. But I think what's more important is the structural changes that have happened in the domestic market. The markets come off scale today, India's is the fifth largest domestic economy, large consumer base, so all of those reasons investors are wanting to invest in India for India. So I think a - investment in the market for the sake of the market, but of course, the fact that you can exit so easily overnight, large stakes really helps the investment case.”
Amongst the many deal trends picking up in the market, private equity (PE) investors are widening their investment horizon beyond the usual sectors and even capturing the consumption story through various service sectors like healthcare services. Startup consolidation is likely to pick pace with bigger players acting as consolidators to expand their market share.
