Shares of Ashok Leyland Ltd, India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, rose nearly 2 percent after the company won an order from the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) for 1,282 fully built buses.

Ashok Leyland said that this is one of the largest orders from a state transport undertaking for a single original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Also, with this order, the company’s order book from state transport undertakings stands at over 4,000 buses.
Under the terms of the new order, Ashok Leyland will deliver 55-seater fully assembled BS VI diesel buses in a phased manner to GSRTC. These buses will feature the iGen6 BS VI technology, powered by a 147 kW (197 hp) H-series engine.
Notably, GSRTC has had a long association with Ashok Leyland, with more than 2,600 BSVI buses already operating in their fleet, including 320 fully built midi buses.
Commenting on the new order, Ashok Leyland’s managing director and CEO Shenu Agarwal said, “Our buses are known for their durability, robustness, and cutting-edge technology, which makes Ashok Leyland a preferred choice in the bus segment, with government as well as with private customers. We take pride in offering unmatched cost-effectiveness and delivering exceptional product experiences, setting the highest industry standards.”
Sanjeev Kumar, President - M&HCV, Ashok Leyland, said, “These 11-meter fully assembled diesel buses will feature our in-house developed iGen6 BS VI OBD II technology, adhering to the rigorous AIS 052 and AIS 153 CMVR bus body standards.”
After the announcement, the Ashok Leyland stock rose as much as 1.7 percent to trade at the day’s high of Rs 177.35 apiece on BSE. The stock has jumped almost 30 percent in the last six months despite a 6 percent decline seen in the last one month.
The stock was trading at Rs 176.95 apiece, up 1.61 percent, on BSE at 11:34 AM.
