Adani Green on Wednesday, February 14, said it has operationalised the first 551 MW solar capacity in Khavda, Gujarat, by supplying power to the national grid.
In a stock exchange filing, the company said it achieved this milestone within a year of commencing work on the Khavda renewable energy part, starting with the development of basic infrastructure, including roads and connectivity and creating a self-substaining local ecosytem. "Adani Green also transformed the challenging and barren terrain of the Rann of Kutch into a habitable environment for its 8,000 strong workforce," it said.
The company said it is planning to develop 30 GW renewable energy capacity at the park and the same is expected to be in operation in the next five years. "When completed, the Khavda renewable energy plant will be the largest renewable energy installation in the world," it said.
Energy from the park can power 16.1 million homes every year.
The Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani said Adani Green Energy is creating one of the world's most extensive renewable energy ecosystems for solar and wind. "This milestone is a validation of the Adani Group's commitment and leading role in accelerating India's equitable clean energy transition journey towards its ambitious goals of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and carbon neutrality," he said.
Adani Green shares were up 2.17% at ₹1,855 apiece around 12.10 pm on February 14.
