Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and most of you must be planning several special activities to mark the day as a memorable one. Every year, February 14 is dedicated to celebrating love and companionship with your special someone. It's the final day of Valentine’s Week, with Rose Day, Propose Day, Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day, and Kiss Day preceding it.
Let us take a closer look at the significance and unique ways of celebrating Valentine’s Day to make it unforgettable for you and your partner.
Origin and Significance
There are several stories about the origin of Valentine’s Day, and here are a few. According to a Britannica report, Valentine’s Day has its origin in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, which used to take place in mid-February. The festival is celebrated as the onset of the spring season. In this festival, women were paired with men through a lottery. Eventually, it is believed that Pope Gelasius I replaced the celebration with St. Valentine’s Day, and over some time from about the 14th century it was celebrated as a day of romance.
But some legends suggest the day is named after St. Valentine of Terni, who was a Bishop. Another story suggests that Valentine’s Day got its name from the priest Valentine. It states that he once sent a letter to his jailer’s daughter whom he had befriended and signed the letter as “from your Valentine”. He was martyred at around 270 CE by emperor Claudius II Gothicus.
Valentine's Day is popularly symbolised by the Roman angel of love, Cupid. According to mythology, Cupid is the son of Venus, indicating to be the goddess of love and beauty, and the bow and arrow of Cupid depict piercing a heart and casting the spell of love. Therefore, Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating the feeling of being in love.
How to celebrate?
Uniquely celebrating the day of love can be confusing for you to plan. While you can plan the traditional ways of celebrating the day with a dinner date and watching a movie together, here are some of the unique ideas that you can consider to mark it memorable for you and your Valentine.
Planning a long drive
Taking a day off to the scenic natural view on the outskirts of city life is all one needs to feel. Taking the opportunity, you can plan a long drive with your partner which will not only serve as a leisure from the routine life but also will allow you to spend close time with the special someone.
An activity
Usually, we do not get much time amid the routine lifestyle to get to do the activities together with our partners. Marking Valentine’s Day, you can plan such activities, including painting together, making pots together, shopping, or cooking as well. It will allow you to connect with your partner more closely.
Personal care sessions
Who would not like to have a day spent for personal care with their loved ones beside them? You can also mark the day by taking a spa session, pedicure, or manicure session together with your partner.
