Tinder launches free online course on interpersonal consent on Coursera
To help young adults navigate the complexities of dating, Tinder has unveiled its latest initiative, "Let’sTalk Consent," an online self-learning course. Partnering with youth media organization Yuvaa, the course is now available on Coursera.

A 2022 survey by YouGov showed that about 65% of young adults in the metro cities of India took steps to personally understand the concept of consent and an equal number of participants were seeking more resources and safe spaces (both physical and online) on consent. This course aims to help Gen Z understand interpersonal consent better.
“The course builds on Tinder's 'Let's Talk Consent' initiative, launched in 2021, which helped address the complexities of consent in relationships amongst young Indian adults. Over the last three years, Tinder has launched a readily accessible resource centre, short films like 'Closure' and 'We Need To Talk,' and in-person consent and safe dating workshops for college students across 3 cities in India,” the company said in a press release.
The 90-minute course on Coursera contains five main modules:
  • Understanding consent in interpersonal relationships
  • Setting and enforcing personal boundaries
  • Recognising signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships via red, green and grey flags
  • Navigating online and offline interactions with safety and respect
  • It is said to utilise several multimedia elements including surveys, assignments, and real-life examples to offer a nuanced understanding of consent in everyday situations.
“Consent has always been at Tinder’s core, starting with mutual matching, which requires both users to express interest before chatting, as well as our suite of trust and safety features. We reinforce these efforts through local educational initiatives such as 'Let's Talk Consent’,” said Aahana Dhar, Director of Communications in India, Tinder.
Dhar added that collaborations like Yuvaa allow the platform to disseminate reliable information and guidance to the public.
Kevin Lee, CEO, Yuvaa said that this new online course provides practical strategies for both online and real-life interactions, emphasising safety, open communication, and mutual respect for personal boundaries.
The organisation had previously partnered with Tinder for its Safe Dating Curriculum last year.
