Jaipur Literature Festival 2024 | Author Maria Goretti's love for cooking & poetry finds inspiration in nature
Maria Goretti started her career as a VJ and TV show host and went on to write a cookbook, even though she didn't know much about cooking to begin with. "I was a foodie, but it was when I first started cooking for my son that I realised how little I knew about cooking," Goretti, the author of From My Kitchen to Yours: Food, Love & Other Ingredients', said.

Her Instagram series ‘When I Have My Cafe’ has been featuring delish recipes from her repertoire. So when asked if the plan to open a cafe was on the tables right now, Goretti clarified that it is not, as of now. “Only once I get a suitable investor.”
Goretti, who is one of the speakers at this year's Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series Jaipur Literature Festival, in 2023, added another feather to her hat with the release of her book 'To the Moon and Back', a collection of 40 of her poems. However, this wasn’t an immediate foray into the world of poetry. “I have been writing poems on my blog for years. My cookbook editor asked me to share all my poems and subsequently, it got published,” she said.
So what fuels her creativity? “You leave me amidst nature, and I’ll be bursting with ideas." "I take life as it comes,” Goretti said, adding that it is nature, not people, that has and continues to inspire her.
Goretti, who is married to actor Arshad Warsi, is a mother of two. However, she confesses that despite being a reader and a writer, her children haven't inherited the same love for books. "My daughter reads, my son doesn't read at all." But it's not the parents' fault if a kid is not a reader, she asserted. "Parents do everything possible. I used to read bedtime tales to my kids when they were younger." It's social media against reading and reading wins.
