Supreme Court has refused to delay the hearing on IPC section 377- which in effect criminalises homosexuality.

Section 377 is part of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which criminalises sexual acts which are against the order of nature, often misused against homosexuals. It dates back to 1861 and we are looking at the matter in the year 2018.
The centre had moved the Apex court, they have sought more time to file the response. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear this case tomorrow. To that the Apex court said, coming from the Chief Justice of India (CJI), that the bench has refused to allow the centre’s request and has held any request or any response that has to be filed by the centre can be filed over the course of the hearing and that there will be no delay that as planned the hearing in the section 377 case will happen tomorrow.
"Sexual orientation is deeply personal, and there is no room for provisions like Sec 377," said the Apex court adding that it will begin hearing review pleas challenging constitutionality of Sec 377.
