The Supreme Court on Monday said Shaheen Bagh protesters can't block a public road and cause inconvenience to the common people. The apex court added that people are entitled to protest, but it has to be done in an area designated for protests.
The Supreme Court on Monday said Shaheen Bagh protesters can't block a public road and cause inconvenience to the common people. The apex court added that people are entitled to protest, but it has to be done in an area designated for protests.
The court also issued notices to the Centre, Delhi government and Delhi police on the matter. The apex court will hear the case next on February 17.
There is no organised group which represents protesters in Shaheen Bagh that is one aspect of it, the apex court said.
"The other aspect is that one unanimous voice that we are getting irrespective of who we speak to is that whatever the court decides on the February 17 or otherwise the protesters will respect the court’s decision."
The protesters have to abide by what the Supreme Court decides, it said.
Hundreds of protesters, mainly women and children, have been sitting at Shaheen Bagh in south Delhi blocking a road that connects Noida with Delhi for nearly two months against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
