Former attorney general Mukul Rohatgi on Friday hailed the Supreme Court's order to probe CBI chief Alok Verma as a positive development and added that it's time to clean up the premier investigating agency.

Rohatgi, representing CBI special director Rakesh Asthana, said former judge monitored probe into corruption allegations against Verma will not cast aspersions on the Central Vigilance Commission’s (CVC) credibility.
Two weeks probe ordered by Supreme Court is a good and positive sign, Rohatgi said, adding that, "The fact that the probe was going to be neutral was clear from the day one. The CVC is the highest body, which has a reputation of impartiality. So, there is no question on the credibility of CVC."
“The Supreme Court has made it clear that because of this unprecedented spat between two senior officers that they are co-opting a judge in this probe. Normally, a judge would not co-opt in the probe and therefore, the court made it clear that this is without any reflection upon the CVC," he further added.
