The ministry of road transport and highways has set a target of constructing roads worth 15 lakh crore over the next two years, union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday.
Indicating towards the disruption caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gadkari said one needs to plan for bad times while working for growth, and businesses should focus on enhancing liquidity as ups and downs are common.
The union transport ministry is also working to clear all arbitration cases with concessionaires, Gadkari added.
Commenting on the long-pending scrappage policy for old vehicles, Gadkari said he has directed the ministry officials to finalise the policy quickly and said it will go a long way in cost reduction.

The minister was holding a video-conference with members of SIAM Institute on impact of COVID-19 on auto sector. Minister of state General (Retd) V K Singh, transport secretary Giridhar Aramane and senior officers of the ministry were also present.
During this interaction, members expressed concerns regarding various challenges being faced by industry amid COVID-19 pandemic along with few suggestions and requested support from the government to keep the sector afloat.
On the question of BS-IV vehicles, he said the government is bound by the Supreme Court verdict on the same. However, on industry suggestion, he will get the matter examined afresh.
Regarding relaxations sought on other regulations, he stated that he will endeavour to provide relief wherever possible where industry is seeking extension of time.
