Wipro appoints former Capgemini executive Thierry Delaporte as MD and CEO

IT major Wipro has appointed former Capgemini executive Thierry Delaporte as its chief executive officer and managing director.  Delaporte will take over as MD and CEO from July 6 replacing Abidali Neemuchwala who will leave the company on June 1.

Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji will oversee day-to-day operations of the company till July 5, the company said in a regulator filing on Friday.
Thierry Delaporte was the chief operating officer of Capgemini Group since January 2018 until recently and a member of its Group Executive Board. During his twenty-five year career with Capgemini, he held several leadership roles including that of chief executive officer of the Global Financial Services Strategic Business Unit, and head of all global service lines, the company added.
Delaporte also oversaw Capgemini's India operations, and led the group's transformation agenda, conceptualizing and driving several strategic programs across various business units.
"Thierry has an exceptional leadership track record, strong international exposure, deep strategic expertise, a unique ability to forge long-standing client relationships, and proven experience of driving transformation and managing technological disruption. We believe that Thierry is the right person to lead Wipro in its next phase of growth," said Rishad Premji, Chairman, Wipro Limited.
The company also appointed Deepak Satwalekar as an additional director in the capacity of independent director for a term of 5  years with effect from July 1, 2020, subject to the approval of the shareholders of the company.
