A massive fire erupted at the office of the Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA) in West Bengal on Tuesday. Officials from the authority have reported that the fire has been brought under control. However, many crucial documents have been completely destroyed by the fire, reported news agency ANI.

The news agency also shared the visuals from the fire on social media platform X.
According to ADDA chairman Tapas Bandopadhyay, when the fire broke out, approximately 10-12 fire engines arrived from Durgapur and nearby areas to handle the situation. The fire was first noticed in the office toilet area by security guards around 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday. They immediately alerted the Durgapur fire department. The fire quickly spread throughout the building but was eventually brought under control by around 5:30 a.m. as per the ANI report
Additionally, officials from the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office and City Centre police outpost rushed to the site upon receiving information. Bandopadhyay said that the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation and the extent of the damage caused is yet to be estimated.
Two major fire accidents also occurred recently in West Bengal. On July 30, a huge fire broke out at a plastic manufacturing factory in South 24 Parganas district. The fire started in the Mallikpur area, and it took 15 fire engines to douse the flames. Fortunately, no one was injured as there were no workers in the factory at the time of the fire accident. The firefighting efforts lasted the entire day, and the firemen managed to completely extinguish the fire.
Another fire incident occurred on July 21, at the Mangla Haat market in Howrah. This market is known for wholesale and retail cloth shops. Unfortunately, many of these shops were gutted by fire. Initially, 12 fire tenders were deployed to tackle the blaze and later six more were called in to extinguish the fire.
The fire spread rapidly as the shops were constructed with bamboo and wood and contained a huge stock of textiles and clothes. A fire department official mentioned that the fire affected an area of approximately 5,000 square feet.
