Watch | Indian Navy's INS Kolkata rescues crew of Houthi drone-hit vessel in Gulf of Aden
INS Kolkata, an Indian warship, rescued 21 crew members, including an Indian national, after their Barbados-flagged cargo vessel was reportedly hit by a Houthi drone/missile in the Gulf of Aden, a Navy spokesperson said. The incident took place on Wednesday when the bulk carrier MV True Confidence caught fire following the attack. The crew members had abandoned the cargo vessel after the attack.

“Barbados Flagged Bulk Carrier MV True Confidence was reportedly hit by a drone/missile, approx 55 nm South West of Aden, on 06 Mar 2024, resulting in fire onboard and critical injuries to some of the crew members forcing the crew to abandon the ship,” an official said.
INS Kolkata, which has been deployed for maritime security operations in the Gulf of Aden, arrived at the scene at around 4.45 pm and rescued the 21 crew members, including one Indian national, from a life raft using its integral helicopter and boats, the official added.
The ship's medical team provided critical medical aid to the injured crew.
The rescued crew, including the personnel who were critically injured, were later evacuated to Djibouti by INS Kolkata.
The Indian Navy warship swiftly responded to the maritime incident in the Gulf of Aden, Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.
As per the official statement, the cargo vessel was hit by a drone/missile approximately 55 nm southwest of Aden. Later on, a fire was reported on board and some of the crew members were critically injured.
The latest incident comes as worldwide concerns grow over Houthi militants' attacks on numerous commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
In recent weeks, the Indian Navy provided help to several merchant vessels in the Western Indian Ocean following attacks on them.
A few days ago, the Navy rescued 23 people, including 13 Indians, onboard a merchant vessel in the Gulf of Aden after it was hit by a drone strike.
The Liberian-flagged commercial ship MSCSkyII was hit by a drone attack on March 4.
“A specialised firefighting team of 12 personnel from #INSKolkata embarked the vessel early morning hours of 05 Mar to assist in firefighting efforts,” the Navy said.
