Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday witnessed a joint mock drill carried out by the state police and the National Security Guard (NSG) at Vidhan Sabha and Lok Bhavan. This exercise was aimed to improve the readiness of the troops for responding to terrorist attacks, reported ANI.

The news agency also posted a video of the drill on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), in which CM Yogi Adityanath is seen watching the mock drill.
The NSG commandos and UP Police personnel carried out the mock drill at the UP Assembly complex as a part of NSG’s Gandiv-5 Exercise.
As per an official statement, to address the challenges of terror attacks, the UP Police and NSG are conducting an exercise called Gandiv-V on September 13 and 14. During this event, the state administration, UP Police and NSG will conduct mock drills at public locations in Lucknow, the news agency added.
Prashant Kumar, Special DG of Law and Order, took this opportunity to issue a message to the general public, ANI reported. He encouraged people to remain patient and avoid spreading or paying attention to any rumours during these drills. He also stressed the importance of following any guidelines provided by the police administration to ensure the smooth execution of these exercises.
This exercise is focused on a scenario where a single city had multiple potential targets, and the NSG task forces were deployed in counter-terrorist roles.
Such mock drills are carried out to test the commando force's preparedness in case of various crisis situations, such as a terrorist attack, aircraft hijacking or hostage crisis scenarios.
JCP of Law and Order, Upendra Agarwal, told the Times of India that the worst-case scenario was simulated in Lucknow, involving terror strikes at six different targets, both during the day and night. The response involved a step-by-step approach, starting with the primary and initial responders, followed by the state ATS, and, as a last resort, the deployment of the NSG. The objective was to ensure a well-organised response mechanism in a situation similar to the Mumbai terror attacks, should such an event occur in Lucknow.
