As expected, NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar won the election to become the next Vice-President of India. He bagged 528 of the total 725 valid votes .

Vice Presidential elections 2022 latest updates:
NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar won by 346 votes to become the next Vice-President of India.  He bagged 528 of the total 725 votes. Opposition candidate Margret Alva received only 182 votes in the election while 15 votes were termed invalid, Lok Sabha General Secretary Utpal Singh informed.

After the result was announced, Opposition's Vice-Presidential candidate Margaret Alva congratulated Dhankhar on winning the polls. She fuether said, "This election was an opportunity for the opposition to work together, to leave the past behind & build trust amongst each other. Unfortunately, some opposition parties chose to directly or indirectly support the BJP, in an attempt to derail the idea of a united opposition."
"This election is over. The battle for protecting our Constitution, strengthening our democracy & restoring the dignity of Parliament, will continue," she added.
Earlier, polling to elect the next Vice President of India ended at 5 PM. The counting of the votes began soon after.
The polling began at 10 AM with Prime Minister Narendra Modi being among the first ones to cast vote. Rahul Gandhi followed by several Congress MPs also casted their vote.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in a wheelchair and needed support to stand up and vote. CPM MP John Brittas was among those who helped the veteran leader in exercising his franchise.
Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were among the leaders who turned up early at the Parliament House. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president J P Nadda, and Commerce Minister and Leader of House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal arrived together to cast their vote.
Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh Singh also casted his vote for the election. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar remained one of the last ministers to cast his vote.

Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said that his party has supported NDA nominee Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Lok Sabha Speaker and MP from Kota - Om Birla casts his vote.
 
Several Congress leaders including Shashi Tharoor, Jairam Ramesh, Mallikarjun Kharge and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury arrived together to cast their votes.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi casts his vote.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also casted her vote at the Parliament.
BJP MP and Bollywood actress Hema Malini casts her vote for the Vice Presidential election. Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Narayan Rane and Sarbananda Sonowal arrived together.
