Uttar Pradesh Excise Minister Nitin Agrawal has announced a complete prohibition on the sale of alcohol in the 84-Kosi Parikrama area of Shriram Nagar. The prohibition will result in the removal of all liquor shops in the designated region.
Agarwal said, "It was our decision as per the instructions by the Chief Minister that we prohibit liqour sale on the 84 Kosi Parikrama Marg. We have shifted the shops alloted there and we have completely prohibitted liqour sale on that Marg. It's a 150-175 km long road so we have shifted all the shops to other places."
The announcement came during Agarwal's visit to Ayodhya, where he met with Champat Rai, General Secretary at Ayodhya Ram Mandir Trust. Agarwal emphasised that instructions for this action have already been issued.
The move comes as the preparations for the grand consecration ceremony of the idol of Lord Ram in Ayodhya are underway.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to visit Ayodhya on December 30 for the inauguration of the Shriram Airport.
