Biju George Joseph, Jaipur Police Commissioner said, “Two motorcycles had collided and (one of the) two persons, who had stopped to see it, was assaulted by the locals. There was no motive, it was just some misunderstanding.”
Angry protesters on Saturday gathered to protest and shut shops in parts of Subhash Chowk and Ramganj. They had blocked the roads as well. Communal clashes erupted in the city lead to deployment of additional police personnel in the city, to maintain law and order.
What Happened in Jaipur?
Two bikers had collided on the road near Mehra Colony after which they started fighting. Reacting to their spat, the colony’s residents intervened and asked the two not fight and go their separate ways.
The tragedy which lead to the youth’s death unfolded after one of the biker left as per the resident’s request. However, the other biker — who was still on the spot — got into an argument with the colony’s resident. Tensions escalated when the people started attacking and beating the biker. The man died on the spot after the attack.
The deceased was identified as Iqbal, a resident of Jaisinghpura. His family claimed that he was killed after being hit by a road, an India Today report said. However, Iqbal’s family refused to give permission for a post-mortem examination.
The video of the incident had also gone viral on social media, where someone from the crowd was seen slapping Iqbal, while another was seen dragging him.
The Jaipur city administration announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh, job and a dairy booth for Iqbal’s family. His family demanded that the accused be caught as soon as possible.
A case registered in the Ramganj police station, however, no arrests have been made yet.
