The Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert in parts of the country on Monday, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in states including Maharashtra and Gujarat. In Maharashtra, a red alert was issued in Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, Satara, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. The Maharashtra State Disaster Management Department revealed on Sunday that a total of 76 people have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents in Maharashtra since June 1, 2022 till date. Out of 76, nine people died in the last 24 hours, it added.
