Mumbai International Airport gets bomb threat mail, sender demands $1 million in Bitcoin
The Mumbai International Airport on Thursday received a ‘threat’ mail indicating to blow up Terminal 2 of the airport, said the Mumbai police. According to the news agency ANI, the sender of the email has demanded $1 million in Bitcoin within the span of 48 hours to avoid the blast in Terminal 2.

As per the ANI report, Mumbai Police said, “Sahar police have registered a case against an unknown person for sending the threat mail using the email id - quaidacasrol@gmail.com.” Reportedly, the mail was sent to the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) feedback inbox at around 11 AM on Thursday.
The threat mail read, “Subject: Blast. Text: This is a final warning to your airport. We will blast Terminal 2 within 48 hours unless one million dollars in Bitcoin are transferred to the address. Another alert will be after 24 Hrs."
Following the threat mail, a case has been registered against an unknown person under the Indian Penal Code sections 385 (causing fear or alarm to the public for the purpose of extortion) and 505 (1) (b) (statements made with an intent to cause fear and alarm to the public for the purpose of extortion).
According to a Times of India report, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) executive, Vismay Pathak said, “I was at the quality and customer care centre in the airport when I came across the threat mail. The threat mail claimed to blow up the airport within 48 hours if the ransom was not paid.”
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police has tracked down the internet protocol (IP) address, which was reportedly used for sending the threat mail.
Following the information gathered through the email, further investigation is underway by the Mumbai Police and airport authorities.
Earlier in August this year, the Mumbai airport had received a hoax call claiming to have a bomb in a blue bag in the airport premises. However, no bomb was found after a thorough search.
