Several suburbs across Mumbai and its neighbouring areas, including Thane, received sudden rainfall with minor thunderstorms on Thursday night. Following the showers, there has been significant improvement in the city’s air quality. As per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality index (AQI) in Mumbai stood at 94 improving to the ‘Satisfactory’ category.

However, certain areas in the city still continued to record ‘poor’ to ‘moderate’ air quality. Bandra Kurla Complex recorded AQI at 111, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport T2 at 101 and Vasai at 108,
News agency ANI shared a visual from Girgaum Chowpatty, showing a layer of light haze enveloping the skies, even after the showers.
On the other hand, some areas across the city such as Colaba, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Mazagaon, and Worli recorded an AQI between 62 and 99, falling under the ‘moderate’ category.
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday brought 27 important points of guidelines, which are going to be implemented to bring down the air pollution, reported news agency ANI.
According to the BMC Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called a meeting of all the district collectors, police commissioner, and municipal corporation officials on Thursday, November 9 to discuss the alarming situation of air pollution.
