Local trains in Mumbai were delayed by 15 minutes beyond Kalyan in the suburban network due to foggy weather on Wednesday morning, as per a railway.
According to news agency PTI, foggy weather was reported between Vashind and Titwala (in Thane district adjoining Mumbai) from 6.30 am to 9 am and between Karjat (in Raigad district) and Badlapur (Thane) from 5.30 am to 9 am, Central Railway's chief public relations officer Dr Shivraj Manaspure said.
Hence, the main line suburban trains were running late by 15 minutes, he said.
Local trains, regarded as Mumbai's lifeline, serve around 35 lakh commuters on a daily basis in the Central Railway (CR) network.
The CR's main line service runs on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Kasara (from south Mumbai to Thane) and CSMT-Khopoli (from south Mumbai to Raigad) routes.
Mumbai's air quality deteriorated for the second day in a row on Wednesday with the city experiencing thick smog and reduced visibility. The overall air quality was worse than that of Delhi. As per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) data, Mumbai's overall air quality index (AQI) remained ‘moderate’ at 119.
The overall air quality in Mumbai went down for the first time in the post-monsoon season compared to Delhi on Tuesday. The AQI of Mumbai stood at 113 on Tuesday.
