Delhi Police arrest NIA most-wanted terrorist Shahnawaz linked to ISIS
One of the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) most-wanted terrorists, Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama, was arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday (October 1). The man allegedly had links with an ISIS module and a Rs 3 lakh award for his arrest, police said.

Shahnawaz, who had managed to escape from the custody of the Pune Police, was tracked down and arrested in southeast Delhi on Sunday night. He had a reward of Rs 3 lakh and was wanted in a Pune ISIS case.
Shahnawaz, an engineer by profession, had been on the run since escaping from Pune Police custody. He is a resident of Delhi and has been living in the national capital since escaping the Pune police.
The Delhi Police's Special Cell managed to locate and arrest him, and he is currently undergoing interrogation by law enforcement officials. In addition to Shahnawaz's arrest, several other individuals associated with the suspected ISIS module have been detained and are also undergoing questioning.
So far, three people including Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama have been arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell, Delhi Police said. The module was planning to carry out terror incidents in North India, taking instructions from foreign-based handlers, Delhi Police's Special Cell alleged.
During Shahnawaz's arrest, officers discovered a "chemical substance" in his possession and seized it.
Furthermore, the police have recovered additional incriminating materials believed to be intended for the fabrication of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The NIA arrested another member of the Pune ISIS module, Shamil Saquib Nachan, in August 2023. The suspect was involved in the fabrication, training and testing of IEDs for terrorist acts, an official said. Nachan was the sixth person arrested in this case.
The initial bust in this case happened in July 2023 with the arrest of four people accused of promoting terrorist activities at the behest of ISIS in a Maharashtra-based module. The case was registered on June 28, 2023.
